SYNOPSIS
The Four Cardinal Heroes are ordinary men from modern-day Japan summoned to Melromarc to save it from the Waves of Catastrophe. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, becomes the "Shield Hero." Despite being armed with only a shield, he is ridiculed for his weak offensive abilities and personality.
Naofumi sets out to train with Malty Melromarc but is betrayed by her. He faces discrimination and a crime he didn't commit. Naofumi begins his journey to strengthen himself and his reputation. Feeling the difficulty of being alone, he purchases a demi-human slave named Raphtalia to accompany him on his travels.

Naofumi Iwatani is the Shield Hero and the main protagonist of The Rising of the Shield Hero.
Raphtalia
Raphtalia was the first member of the Shield Hero's party after he purchased her as a slave.
Filo
Filo was originally hatched from a monster egg which Naofumi purchased from the slave trader.
Motoyasu Kitamura
Motoyasu Kitamura is the Spear Hero, one of the Four Heroes summoned in Melromarc.
Ren Amaki
Ren Amaki is the Sword Hero, one of the Four Heroes summoned in Melromarc.
Itsuki Kawasumi
Itsuki Kawasumi is the Bow Hero, one of the Four Heroes summoned in Melromarc.
Beloukas
The slave dealer that sells Naofumi slaves. He also conducts slave seal rituals.
Malty Melromarc
The first princess of Melromarc and the person who betrayed Naofumi.
